Strong, bold colours are Kristina's trademarks. Working in either gutta seri method or freeform method, Kristina blends a unique combination of design and colours in her silk art. Each design is handpainted on 100% silk using steam set dyes for a "one-of-a-kind" item. The silk is stretched on a frame with three-pronged hooks and elastics and gutta is applied to outline the design and separate dyes from mixing. Once the gutta has dried, dyes are applied with a brush and interesting effects can be created using grains of salt, salt water and sugar water or just letting the colours blend as they dry. The silk is then rolled in newsprint and steamed to set the dyes. Excess dyes and gutta are washed out
after steaming and the item is ironed dry. The end result is a lovely silk art item with
vibrant colours and a luxurious feel to the touch.
